Unsung Heroes

Revealing the Remarkable in Seemingly Ordinary People

Rodney Johnson

Rodney (Rocket) Johnson came to Narrogin as the Green Keeper at the Bowling Club in the early 90's. He became involved in sports, mainly hockey and basketball and in both, he has spent a lot of time coaching and umpiring and has taken on roles at committee level. The Hockey Association would not be the organisation it is today without the enormous time, commitment and energy Rodney has put in to all the roles he has held. Those roles have included Umpiring and Fixture committees, Hockey Development, travelling widely promoting the sport of Hockey and working to develop the skills amongst the Junior players.

Holding such roles for years, dedicating many hours and his own money to promote this sport, Rodney is well recognised and respected, not only here in Narrogin but in all the Shires that make up the Upper Great Southern Hockey Association and at State level within Hockey WA.

Not surprisingly, he was, a few years ago, awarded with Life Membership and still continues to dedicate most of his time to the sport. With the capacity to keep on giving, Rodney is the first to hold up his hand if something needs doing and never seeks anything in return.

Those who know him say Rodney is unassuming and prefers to fly under the radar, all the time doing his best to facilitate the enjoyment of sport for the benefit of Club members.
