Unsung Heroes

Revealing the Remarkable in Seemingly Ordinary People

Jenny Ettridge

"Mum is like a little tornado, whirling through life at a rate of knots."

Putting in hundreds of voluntary hours, drumming up support and doing the hard labour, Jenny Ettridge makes things happen in the town she loves so well.

"I had a dream to try to rescue an old BMX track on the outskirts of our little town, located in a beautiful bush setting" Mrs Ettridge told Daryna Zadvirna from the Narrogin Observer. Her enthusiasm caught the interest of the community and with 104 encouraging responses, offers of help, substantial donations and the work of community volunteers, the recreational area was developed..

Jenny Ettridge was amazed and grateful for the donations and the work of community volunteers including the Shire of Narrogin, whose CEO Dale Stewart, a former BMX rider himself, backed their proposal and paid for significant improvements.
The community group has managed to restore seventy five per cent of the track, renovate an old toilet block, paint a mural on the block exterior, set up seating and install a water fountain. The next goals for the project are to build a solid shelter with picnic tables, construct a safe nature play area, pot some bush tucker plants and finish off the rest of the track.

Jenny is a kind a generous soul who enjoys the simple things in life; gardening, renovating and camping. She is a tireless worker on committees, including that which supports the Agricultural Show and she can always find the positive in the face of negativity, keen to promote Narrogin to the utmost.
Her adored husband, whom she has known since her teenage years, their daughters, grandchildren and friends know her as fiercely loyal, ready to support them in every practical and meaningful way.
