Nana Purple - Hazel Winmar © Graham Smith

Nana Purple - Hazel Winmar.
Series: Portraits.
75cm x 100cm.
Oil on canvas.
Ref # 2013002.
Completed August 2013.
This painting was completed for display at the opening of the "Bush Babies" exhibition to open on the 30th August 2013, in Narrogin, WA.
This exhibition is a tribute to 99 year old Kellerberrin Elder, Hazel Winmar, who is believed to be the oldest Ballardong woman alive.
Hazel, who is affectionately known as Nana Purple, was born on the side of the railway tracks just outside of Brookton in 1914. Her story is just one of the ‘Bush Babies’ memories documented during this successful community arts project.

Thanks to Geri Hayden (Aboriginal Arts and Culture Coordinator, CAN WA - Narrogin) for permission to use the image from the Bush Babies calendar.
